Let me take you back to January. Now that it’s sweltering outside, I’m sure you have forgotten how chilly our January was – it was pretty darn cold. Maki and Michael got married the first weekend in January, after a particularly cold snap closing out 2017. However, that day was beautiful-  the sun was shining, the birds were singing, and the day perfectly warmed up to a lovely 50-something degrees with a soft, gentle breeze. We couldn’t believe it, but, boy, did we enjoy it!

Maki found me on the Holy Family Catholic Church’s website, where she saw a picture of the stained glass wall that I had taken in the chapel. A series of fortunate events had led to that picture being up on the website in the first place  – starting with a wedding I had shot there so many years before. The church coordinator had reached out soon afterwards asking for some additional pictures of the church and although I have never pretended to be an architectural photographer, I was happy to oblige. And that day was so special – the sun shone perfectly through the front doors of the church, all the way back into the chapel, perfectly coming in through that prismatic wall.

As I do with many of my more intimate wedding packages, I met Maki & Michael for the first time on their wedding day, only a few short moments before their ceremony. Both of them were cool and collected, with not a single pang of nervousness in sight. They were both laughing and joking with their wedding party – a single maid of honor and a best man. They were stationed in opposite ends of the church – Maki in the modern, bright and white bridal suite and Michael in the deep and dark library.

And suddenly, it was time to start …
