Thanks to the lovely Allen of Allen Tsai Photography for sharing images from the SWP Trends Expert Panel event. I was asked to speak about new trends in the industry, along with some lovely other vendors including Rebecca Hackl of CN Catering & The Room on Main, Lucy Diaz-Flores & Cesar Diaz of Bella Flora of Dallas, Dave von Blohn of Absolute Entertainment, and Carolyn Newell Brown of Weddings by Carolyn.

We received the standard questions about what trends we were seeing – Bella Flora is seeing a lot of softer blush colors and larger statement pieces and Absolute Entertainment is seeing more band bookings. We also talked about the role of Pinterest in wedding planning. And here’s the thing with Pinterest: it’s a great place to start to create your wedding vision and to provide ideas to your vendors. The negative side is that those gorgeous pieces that you see, may be farther out of your price range than you think. And for photographers, it becomes a sort of must have shot list. Imagine sharing a board of snippet of moments from several weddings- well that’s beautiful – but think about trying to spend your wedding day recreating a bunch of forced moments now. Not so appealing, right? Photographers would love to have you create your own moments together so that you are the ones getting pinned!

I was also given the chance to speak about boudoir photography. As boudoir has become more mainstream, and thereby ‘accepted’, the clientele base has definitely increased. However, it’s no longer limited to weddings – I’m seeing mothers of the bride and even a grandmother or two get in on the action!
