Surprisingly enough, 13 has always been a lucky number for me. (If I was born on Friday the 13th, my story would be even funnier and explain a lot of the silly things in my life. But in an ironic twist, I was the girl born on Thursday, the 13th.)

A few months ago I sent in my first and only contest entry to the International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers Contest. When I received the email that the Fall 2010 winners were announced, I pessimistically assumed I hadn’t even placed. I went through every category and there it was, smiling back at me under the Engagement Portraits category. My lucky number 13.

The story: this image is the very last image that I shot of Liz & Carl when we did their engagements in Seattle. I remember giggling to myself as I made them hike up the hill and stand there motionless for several moments as various tourists were running up and down the hill around them. When they all finally cleared out, the sky was perfectly blue  and you could see a sliver of the waxing crescent moon. (Hey, look kids, I learned something in school!)

We had gelato afterwards at Tutta Bella. Apparently an early celebration
