It started with a simple email: Mary asking if I would be interested in doing some family portraits in Washington DC amidst the cherry blossoms. I only had one weekend open in April and luckily that was the one that she thought would be the perfect weekend – and according to several online forums devoted to those crazy flowering trees- the actual peak of the cherry blossom season. There was some minor panic as DC saw another snowfall in mid/late March and then there were speculations on how that would affect the trees. However, the weather continued to improve and there was rejoicing. YAY!

The second bout of minor panic was the threat of some serious storms rolling through that second weekend in April. But I kept my optimistic attitude and stuck with my personal motto “30% chance of rain means nothing! Nothing!” Luckily, (PHEW!) I was right and I arrived late Friday evening to find all of the trees in tact and ready for me!!!

My partner in crime that weekend was the amazing Kimberly, who drove up from Virgina Beach just to make sure that there was never a dull moment. And there definitely was not. On Friday night, we stayed up WAY TOO LATE giggling in our hotel room and she somehow managed to be delightfully cheery when the alarm went off early the following morning.

On Saturday morning, we photographed the sweet Anderson family and racked up some seriously funny stories along the way. We also enjoyed some time walking around DC – we racked up over 10 miles actually so a hearty lunch Old Ebbit Grill was definitely in order. After a nice nap, we continued the fun and laughter with Emily & Daniel and Rashee & Asheesh.

Here are some of my ‘walking about’ images from that weekend – starting with Kim + her coffee.
