Orion Ballroom Shoot :: Caught!

We are still in idle before our wedding season starts officially the first week of March. In between, Michelle and I took on quite an extraordinary shoot at the Orion Ballroom. I will be sharing those images in some upcoming posts, but before I do – proof that I actually can photography children. The adorable twins in the background are Tina & Rick’s. The white dress cutie in front of the camera is Beth & James’ sweet daughter.

Michelle teaching Kim how to dance. Hilarity always ensues with us.

Lynn’s Secret Field :: Serenity

I can’t help but enjoy this very lovely ‘winter’ we are having. Nathan and I took a walk to explore the far reaches of my secret field. I am just insanely excited to spend more time there. It’s peaceful and bathed full of beautiful sunlight daily. ♥

Gizmo :: 85 1.8 lens

Just when I think I own every lens that I could ever want, someone lures me into the ‘what ifs’ by saying “you have try the xxxx, it will make your life complete”. And so the siren song of a new lens calls me in the middle of the night and I send an email to Canon and ask to borrow a lens, which may or may not make my life complete.

On the judges stand was the 85mm 1.8 lens. It’s quite lovely and lightweight at first touch.

For my photography friends, I just want to say that the lens is gorgeous and now that the 24-70II has been officially announced, I’m considering that as my first purchase before the 85mm or perhaps in lieu of it if it performs to my expectations.

For my sweet stalkers whose brains blew up from the sentence above: LOOK … KITTY!

Imaging USA :: New Orleans

For months I had been telling my photographer friends that I would not be attending Imaging USA. It would be the first Imaging I would have missed in nearly 5 years and I was dead set on not going. Two weeks before the actual event I decided I was going and I went in some crazy full throttle mode. The next thing I knew, I was booking tickets and I was talking to my friends at Adorama and being asked to be a representative in their convention booth.

Now Imaging wasn’t all work and no play for me. I got to hang out with my dear friends and enjoy some local cuisine – yum!

One morning, we all got our butts up at 6am and walked to Cafe Du Monde for beignets and coffee. It was chilly and we were, um, tired but here is my crew.

Why 6am, you ask? So we could watch the sun come up. Best ‘stupid’ thing I have ever done.

This month I am joining my buds again at WPPI in Las Vegas. It’s not only my first trip to WPPI, but also to the LV. What will happen next?!

Elizabeth :: bridals

Elizabeth was married in December at the happiest place on earth. I had the pleasure of doing her bridals in Fort Worth, a place that makes me pretty darn happy personally.

Elizabeth just glowed as she spoke about her wedding and her fiance and the location perfectly complimented her chic and sophisticated side.

It was just such a gorgeous day that we caught the sun set at a nearby park.

Side note: the sun flare was in camera, I’m pretty proud of the perfect circle of loveliness that it created.

Katelyn & Justin :: Thistle Hill Reception

Katelyn & Justin’s romantic vintage vision looking splendid at the Thistle Hill mansion in Fort Worth. They decorated the tables inside with family photographs and memorabilia such as her grandmother’s bible and grandfather’s tie. It was a warm and beautiful gathering of friends and family.

Katelyn and Justin entered through the main staircase. They paused for a quick moment for pictures that were taken by the family below which gave me some time to play with the gorgeous woodwork above.

Creme de la Creme cake. Amazing once again.

Victorious.

Katelyn & Justin :: Wedding Portraits

I don’t even know where to begin. Beyond the fact that Katelyn and Justin are unlike anyone else that I have had the pleasure of photographing, I can ramble on about that freaking light at the chapel that makes me swoon every time or the oodles of time that we spent on portraits just because we could. So from an organizational standpoint, I will tell you about the wedding day schedule.

Katelyn and Justin had their first glance at 12:30 in the afternoon on September 4th. The intense wind precluded us from doing formal portraits outside so we took advantage of this splendid light instead. Formal portraits- family and wedding party lasted about 30 minutes total before the ceremony, giving them almost an hour to relax and play around before the ceremony began.

After the short & lovely ceremony, we took two quick images of the extended family and since we were well ahead of schedule, I had a lovely 30 minutes more in the chapel with just the two of them.

Once we arrived to their reception location, Thistle Hill, there was some bustling around to set up the sound system so I took advantage of the lawn and the fact that the wind had died down. YAY!

Katelyn & Justin’s reception before 8pm. And with the sun setting at a 8:30pm, we had some time to run around downtown Fort Worth. Because we can.

We even had some time to enjoy a nice cigar.

The ceremony at Marty Leonard Chapel was intimate and lovely, officiated by Justin’s uncle Mike. There were tears of joy and moments laughter, all of the hallmarks of a beautiful new union.

Katelyn & Justin :: details & first glance

I met Katelyn at the chapel months before the wedding and we spent hours talking about her wedding. Hours. We left the chapel because we needed internet access and spent a few more hours at Central Market, sharing dessert and searching the web for additional ideas that went with the vintage chic vision. She as my kind of bride – vintage chic and modern, with a deep love of fluffy desserts. (We had the lemon tart in case you were wondering).

I was beyond ecstatic to learn that she and Justin wanted me as their wedding photographer and even more excited to see their wedding day come together.

Windy day at Marty Leonard. Perfectly placed tree and sliver of sunlight. Glorious.

Her dress made me drool with delight.

Such a lovely first glance, we all giggled with glee.

Katelyn and Justin wrote letters to one another that they shared together before the wedding day. I’m sure you are just entranced by them as I was.
